What's your dream job??

Hey gang, I'm on a search for a different career. Bookkeeping was never my plan!! How did I end up here?! Anyway, if any of you have any tips for finding a good career that really fits me, I'd be sooo appreciative. Honest, I need your help. Really. No really. I took one of those career tests online but I didn't agree with it. Has anyone changed careers? If so, how'd you go about doing it and knowing which career to change to? Thank you!!

Jetblue Rocks!

I recently used Jetblue to fly from Charlotte to New York and they were great. Their planes are brand new, have TVs in every seat, and more legroom. They have fares from $69 to NYC. Can't beat that! I thought I would share my enthusiasm.

You Tube Court Ruling

Is there an expectation of privacy on the Internet?

Today, a federal judge ruled that Viacom (who owns the rights to innumerable television programs) is entitled to the IP addresses and user names of those who watched copywrited material on YouTube. Viacom (whose dwindling revenues follow on the heels of a downtrend in network television viewing) aims to obtain significant actual and potential punitive damages from YouTube for violation of copywrite. The question remains whether the data which is being requested will ultimately lead to lawsuits against YouTube users. Why would we think that to be the case? Well, damage information as to the degree of damages which could be awarded to Viacom can be obtained based on the sheer numbers, rather than on personalized individual information. Anonymity can be protected. Yet, Viacom aims to obtain their "just reward" in unpaid revenues from YouTube at the expense of setting a dangerous precedent.

What is a precedent? From a legal standpoint, a precedent is a case which serves as a go-by in subsequent cases. Often, a precedent will be small and then end up carving out an entire new avenue of laws that expand the scope of the initial case in application as well as ramification.

What does this technology lawsuit mean to you? You know you thought it too. You use a site to upload videos and the potential risk to you is nil, as you have a made up user name. Now, with this ruling, it is possible that a company could obtain payment from you (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) by simply petitioning the court for your identifying information. Using your IP address, your internet provider can be identified, and the viola your anonymity is nonexistent. Is this the harbringer of a curtailing of Internet sharing? Your guess is as good as mine, but we should all be concerned. Ironic isn't it, that such a ruling should come the day before the 4th of July when we celebrate our independence including our right to privacy which is slowly being erroded.

Economy Puts Life in Perspective: In These Challenging Times Giving Puts It All Into Perspective

Time are hard. Everyone is saying it. Haven't yet felt it? Perhaps, you are still doing well and want to give back to the community as a thanks to the universe for your good fortune. Well, now is your change.

Thought I would post here about a great organization that makes a real difference in the Charlotte area. While many have heard of them, perhaps, there are some who haven't or those who want to learn more.

The organization which I am speaking about is Crisis Assistance Ministry. Located just outside downtown Charlotte, NC. Crisis Assistance Ministry focuses on helping those in financial crisis. If you haven't already done so, check out their website at http://www.crisisassistance.org or check out their you tube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWKkFb5fqqI

In these harsh economically challenging times, it is important to remember that most people are just a pay check away from needing the services that Crisis Assistance Ministry provides. Although to a large extent the Charlotte area has been insulted from the economic woes that plague the rest of the nation, the economy ultimately causes a domino effect when high prices result in stretching what was already a tight budget.

You might be asking how can you help. Well, at Crisis Assistance Ministry there are various avenues for you to assist them in providing these essential services. For instance, if you want to volunteer, go to the Crisis Assistance Ministry page on Idealist.org http://www.idealist.org/if/i/en/av/Org/9858-236 or check out the Hands On Charlotte page http://www.handsoncharlotte.org/. Among the volunteer opportunities available are Emergency Financial Assistance volunteers who assist by interviewing clients regarding their financial crisis. Volunteers are also needed at the Home Essentials store, the only free store in North Carolina. Volunteers are needed to sort donated items so that they can be ready to be placed on the well-organized shelves for distribution to those in financial crisis in Charlotte. If you feel the calling to donate funds, you can also do that at the Crisis Assistance Ministry Website (http://www.crisisassistance.org)

If you are looking for an opportunity to give back to the community, Crisis Assistance Ministry is a great find your niche. Why not be productive and help those in need simultaneously. As Mohammad Ali said, "Service to others is the payment you make for your space here on earth." Let's give back to the community right here in Charlotte.
